About the 23 Things

Goals of Program:
1.    To expose educators to cool and fun Web 2.0 tools that are free!
2.    To discover and collaborate about ways to use technology in the classroom.
3.    To create a 21st Century Learner (and Educator) here in VCS.
This program has been modeled after the PLCMC’s blog and also an article from School Library Media Monthly.
Program Format:
There are 23 "Things" to explore and complete. Each "Thing" will show you one more web tool. There are many places to explore, play with, and think about creative ways to use 2.0 tools in your classroom. Each week begins with a brief explanation of a new web 2.0 topic, followed by “Play Time” and an “Tech-tivity” to complete. After some playing around and practice you write about the experience on the blog you will be creating. You will be commenting or "posting" to your web log (Blog) and also here on the Junkie Blog.
For newbies, a blog is a tool to communicate your thoughts, new found skills, ideas, questions, and favorite websites. Think of it as a reflection portfolio…a diary…
23 Things Course Schedule:
This course will run for a total of 10 weeks.  Week 1 begins on Sunday, June 19, 2010.  All tech-tivities and participant survey will be due on Sunday, August, 28, 2011.  Please be sure to sign up for the inservice points on Training Calendar on Blackboard.  Also, you will need to submit your blog's URL to me via email or here.

Okay! Now I think I’m ready for this. I'm a little confused about making a blog though.

NO worries you will learn all about it in Week 1 and 2.
So glad you are here!

I am also excited about learning about the Web 2.0 tools. I am familiar with some of the tools already...glogster, blabberize, voki...I also have an edmodo site for my class. I am confused about setting up a blog. Do we need one to get started?

To get started go to Week 1 Introduction Thing 1 and Thing 2.

You will be making your blog in Week 2.

Just follow the outline or weeks in order and you will be good to go. WELCOME!

I've always embraced technology, but it changes so fast...I'm always trying to catch up! I love edmodo and am interested in finding ways to use it in the classroom. Oh, and I have no idea how to choose an identity!

I am excited to have created a blog spot for my class and my very own avatar. My students are going to love this!

I am excited to start this adventure with all of you. However, I am nervous because this is my first time and I'm not positive how to proceed.

I am ready to start! Will be out of the country for part of the training, but with internet, that should not be a problem...

Mrs. Stewart said...

@ Katie:
DId you save it as a picture file or did you copy the html code?

Please chat me on Meebo for help: Go to the right hand side of your screen and type in the chat box.

@Anonymous:
You have the option to choose an identity before you post a comment. You can be identified by your Google Account or select Name and you can type in your name. You may also choose not to be named- remember some of us may be a little shy with all this tech stuff.

Happy commenting!

@Mme:
Think how powerful that is! You will be with us from miles away. Have a blast. Hopefully you will post some great digital images from your trip when we get to that tech-tivity!

I'm so excited about taking this challenge. I went to our VCS Tech Week recently and learned about some of the activities we will be doing...now I can actually practice them. Blogging is not something I thought I would be doing but am excited about trying it out and sharing it with some of my teachers at my school.

I have had a great time playing around with my blog, thanks for the great links. I really enjoyed making the albums and wish we could view blogs at school. I would love to use one for my preschool parents, but want my students to maintain it, which can't be done during the school day. I plan on playing around to see if I can include them on edmodo.

When I was trying to add a SmileBox album to edmodo, I discovered that their subscription service is free to teachers. Look for the "Teacher's Toolbox".

This will be most challenging for me! While using technology in my classroom I always let the students know I am techy illiterate and they are most eager to help. I already feel lost without their support:)

I am learning so much!

Thanks so much for offering this course again. I am excited to share what I have learned with my third grade gifted students:)

So glad everyone is having a great time learning! We had a great face to face meeting today.

Remember you can access this blog at school. You will see a security screen show up with a button to continue and view the blog.

Happy blogging!

O.K. I am now frustrated. I made my "toon" clicked on the <> button to embed, it says copied but I can not find my embed code. When I went out and back a comment bar on my toon has gone black. Any suggestions on why my toon is changing when I bring it back up. I have only allowed "share with friends"?

This year we have had the exciting opportunity to experience some of the 2.0 tools. I am looking forward to learning more and understanding the process.

I have been experimenting with Blabberize and became frustrated with my computer. I could not get a microphone to work, but, finally one did!! I am not certain how this would work in a middle or high school setting, but the elementary school students will have a great time with this. In the middle school, using avatars would be great as the students really love animae. Making a few to use for bell ringer activities would be fun!

Sorry everyone, I needed to remove the Week 2 Thing 3 from my name! Sometimes I feel like I am in a Dr. Seuss book - having a great time while learning a lot!

Cathy said...

I guess I should be "latest", but I'll think of a name. I'm starting very late because I'm not a good email checker, and I actually forgot that I had entered this course. After coming back from a short vacation out of state, I'm going to make a grand stab at getting this all done. I'm very apprehensive because I'm of the generation that has had the least exposure to technology. One problem that I will have to overcome is my dislike of reading from a computer screen. I attended the summer technology week and my head is still reeling with so many new things. I guess I'll just jump in and hope I can stay afloat. All of you, please send me some techie vibes.

Having trouble finding the Week 6 Thing 16 blog. I've got a Wikispace hansensheroes.wikispaces.com. This is a terrific tool for classroom communication and the future of teaching technology through this is limitless!
