Last summer, I used smilebox to create a slideshow to show the parents what their children had created during the week. I think it would be great to use for Open House or at the end of the school year. I really like the class newsletter, because it is so easy to use. My 4th and 5th grade students can do it for me!

Intriguing ideas! I agree that educational reform is needed but the technological tools, expert guidance and training, and administrative and political support for achieving this reform are necessary for its success. Let's get started!

These were two amazing videos. Some statements by Howard Gardner I have to comment on. He said "students need to create or they will forget what they learned". I immediately thought...Create or die! Something he said about assessments that struck me was "school is not something that is done to you...students must be active agents. We need to get the students up and moving, creating, collaborating, sharing, exploring, questioning and experimenting. Technology helps students do ALL these things!

Without a doubt the ToonDoo.com site will be used in my classroom. My gifted students often choose to create a comic strip to summarize a story so I can't wait to share this wonderful site with them! Students cold also be used to help a student organize their thoughts when writing a narrative story. Thanks for sharing :)

The mixbook, smilebox and toondo sites are fantastic! I can't wait to try them out with my students.
I plan to use them to support the writing process. First graders ideas often surpass their language/writing skills and these sites will help support getting those great ideas in print!

Oh, my. I am addicted to Blabberize. What fun! I had the whole family laughing! What a great tool to have students make animals talk. Maybe they could let the animals give their animal report? This would be such a great way to summarize a story with a character talking or have the student use their photo to recite a poem. Uses are only limited by ones imagination. Too much fun! :)

Week 3 Thing 5 - Mixbook - how much fun is this? I have never been a scrap booker, but this site is so easy.
Smile Box is great. It is very similar to Photo Story but is even better in that the download is so small that it takes up very little room, and It's free. This is a great site for students to create project-based assignments and share via a class blog, video, or link to the site. I am compiling a list of sites to share with our teachers, and this is an easy one to learn!

Have ha d a great time with Blabberize! I can see using this program with great success in an elementary school. The program will be a new twist on my bell-ringer activities in middle school. Animae characters have a great appeal to middle school students. I am interested in trying to combine avatars from doppleme.com with blabberize and see some great attention-getting results.

Voice Thread is fantastic! This would be a great product to use when preparing remediation materials and assessements for the Volusia Proficiency Model as well as for creating end-of-course exams. Group members can be "relaxing" wherever, and contribute via voice or written comment on the materials as well as make changes and upload their thoughts and materials. I have used Safari Live (which is free), but Voice Thread offers much more.

Google Docs are going to be so useful in the classroom. No more zip drive...no more having to save it to the computer to make changes. I can see uses for both collaboration with fellow teachers as well as assignments given to kids. Can't wait to start using it.

Sherri said...

Lots of play with toondoo today and searching around the web...I took this course to start learning how to create a website or blog to post student artwork so parents could actually see it (kids don't like carrying stuff home!) and to post assignments and demos students can review or catch up with. I found W3Schools online that teaches html! Website or Blog? that is the question...

Week 4 Thing 10: Have really enjoyed using VoiceThread to create a Space presentation using photos I took from the Kennedy Space Center years ago. What a great way to create a presentation with your voice to teach concepts. Always looking for new ways to keep our students engaged in learning! :)

Week 5 Thing 11: I agree with Christine.....Google Docs will be a great way to share information during collaboration instead of using flash drives or saving it to our school computers. I wish I knew about this last year when I was forever running to find my flash drive. What a wonderful tool to implement a better PLC! :)

Week 5: Things 11 & 12-Google Docs, Google Reader, and Google Searches with extra credits.
I have found this activity to be the most rewarding. I used Google Docs, Googie Search, and Google Custom Search to find information on Technology Grants. I see this tool as a most useful to filter down to exact searches which will save time. It is interesting that Google Custom Search will allow users to create a customized google search on their own website which will save time! This is a tool I will continue to use for my classroom :)

Hi getting a late start. My blog spot is Http://Reddiefortechinclass.blogspot.com
I am excited about learning from this experience. I I have read up to week three. I am hoping my blog will work as intended. I had a blast making my avatar but am challenged with how to embed it in my blog spot. I do have an avatar on my class website page but had a hard time finding the right embed code for putting it there too. Next step is to explore week 3 photos & images. Happy summer! Stacey

I liked Mixbook better than Smilebox as I found it easier to use. I know that several teachers have assignments where students create scrap books: characters from books; travel logs for foreign language classes; time lines of historical evetns. It seems like the possibilities are endless for these Things.

Just created a web page/blog using Weebly. This is one site I plan on revisiting to use for the multimedia class. This site would be great for posting projects and required work where students can submit their answers and comments to the entire class - all from one site.
Where are we to post the URL for the weebly?

Wow! Just finished looking at "hooked-on-books. wikispaces" very impressive. My wikispace is just starting. I've got a lot more to add after this. Check out hansensheroes.wikispaces.com.

OK I did all of the explorations but sadly have not contributed to this blog so I am doing some catch up now. I love Google forms, I use it to survey parents on website likes and dislikes for my class website. Also use images regularly to provide visuals when learning about a concept, location, object..

Thing 14 - Love Edmodo (always spell it wrong ? mental block)
Our school is a group, I am a member of several FETC 2011 groups, love the Kahn Academy for mini math lessons and tutorials - which I use with my own sons when they are struggling with mixed fractions, etc.

I am wondering if I have been posting my comments to the wrong blog all the time! Oh well, I have kept up with my blog and I have to say it gets a bit confusing to me!

A favorite? That is hard. It always seems to be what I am trying to use right then. I think I like the possibilities of the wiki using any number of these tools you have introduced us to. And digital storytelling is so versatile with any several of the sites (animoto, toondo, prezi, even blabberize!)
